Here I Go Again!

Hello everybody,

how was that Easter break? I hope that you were lying on a hammock reading something nice with a Caipirinha on the side. You could have been reading something from the great and incredible writer Gabriel García Márquez, for example. Unfortunately he passed away a few days ago. May the peace be with him.

Changing the topic...
As you know, because I have been telling you about it a lot lately, I was part of a girl-band called The Majorettes. And I said I was because I have left the band for good.
No major reason is the motive of this decision, maybe is a pile of small things, but the most important one is that I always wanted to do everything  feeling it hundred percent and I felt that this wasn't the case.
Each girl in the group resulted having a total different point of view when it came to the band's musical direction, so it was a little bit difficult to make any decision without having a real debate every time we wanted to change something. So, in spite of the fact that it was great joy for me, I'm not anymore a Majorette.
I treasure each moment I've lived with these amazing women.

Nevertheless, I'll leave here a few snaps of our last gig together. Unfortunately I cannot show any vids or pics of the highlight of the night, when our friend Monika Ruth joined us on stage to sing Something's Got a Hold On Me by Etta James.

Spring Clean!

Since I am in Sevilla and the heat is starting to use up my ideas and energy, I have decided to revamp the blog so it will be more suitable to this temperature. Fresh clean, white and bright. I hope that this helps the reading.
The funny thing is that I might have made this change since I'm trying to do the same thing in my flat, althought this is taking more time and also getting in my nerves as it seems that has  no possible ending. The more I dig the deeper I find myself into old clothes, dust, more dust, old shoes (that, for same dark reason,  I am unable to throw away), wires, and a zillion of things that I don't know where to put). I've decided to fit a drawer up for this... It's going to be messy, I assure you.

So, yes. For all those whom find themselves in the same situation,  all my love and support to you! :)

I would appreciate your opinion. Any advice as in how to organise, to clean efficiently, time-saving doing this, tricks and so on will be taken gladly into consideration! Enjoy spring (clean)!

 

By the way, I'm feeling the urge of something like this ASAP.

Got My Mojo Working

Hello there!

Busy as a bee lately, mostly rehearsing and practising. I guess it's all worth it or it'll eventually be.

I've been quite immersed in my collaboration with a new blues band, the Kid Carlos Band.
Kid Carlos is a reeeally young fella that I met long time ago. He already played guitar very nicely at that time. Right now it's just insane.
The band is composed of Carlos Moreno on guitars, Lalu Cordón on bass, Ernesto Naranjo on Keys, Stefano di Rubbo on drums and myself on vocals.

A few weeks ago we went to Cáceres for a gig. Cáceres is a wonderful, beautiful, ancient city that I, unfortunately, didn't have the chance to know better. However, I have a few friends over there and promised that I will go and visit sometime soon.

Going back to the gig, it took place in a bar-cafe called Corral de las Cigüeñas and it was outdoors (to my disappointment). And I said to my disappointment because it was crazy cold and I couldn't feel my fingers because I was literally freezing (you can see my red nose on the pics). I had to cover myself with a shawl that my mother knitted for me :). Nevertheless, we were amazed by the incredible audience that showed us so much love and support. Thanks to everybody! We REALLY want to go back!

Vintage Parade

Hello again!
I wanted to write a new entry just to get you in the mood of the weekend. Yay! For me, this is going to be a busy one. Two gigs ahead and some much needed going out and socializing time.
Tonight I will be singing with my dear friend Chema Núñez, a former guitarist of my old blues band (Blues de Bellota). We will be playing in a lovely irish pub right in central Seville, where we will have the  honour to make a rendition to guys like Neil Young or Eric Clapton to name just a few.

An example of what we will do:
 

On saturday I will be the host singer at a blues jam session, the Casa del Blues de Sevilla jam session. (http://www.casadelbluesdesevilla.com/).
It is a monthly jam where local musicians enjoy playing around with each other. The location is a family-friendly bar where you can eat, have a coffee or drink a world beer listening to Blues, Rock and so on... Its name is Ruta 66, in Montequinto, Seville.

As I revealed to you last week, I went to a local TV with The Majorettes, a 50-60's soul-inspired girl's band. They recorded a performance of a song from the 70's that we have in our repertoire. Paradoxically.

We will be doing this song and others on a spring festival which will take place at the Olimpic Stadium. Many bands will be also there to celebrate the lovely weather that it's to come to my city in a month or so.
I encourage you to come and visit it. You won't be dissapointed.

What I'm Up To

Hello! I'm writing from Seville. I wish I could call it 'sunny Seville', but unfortunately today we woke up with an awful grey and very rainy day.
I'm using my day mostly to do that kind of stuff that I cannot do during the week, like manicure, pluck eyebrows, etc.
I'm also preparing for tonight's gig at Bar Tintin, with my wonderful and beloved The Majorettes. Apart of other projects I'm immersed in, I've been working with these girls for 3/4 months now. We don't only have loads of fun everytime we go on stage but also when we rehearse which is usually on thursday mornings.
To describe this project, I'd say that is a four-piece vocal group in which we do a rendition to soul and beat music. Mostly from the 50's and 60's. Eg. The Supremes, The Cookies, Beatles, Little Eva...

On thursday evening we went to a local TV where we were interviewed. We also did a performance and a capella interpretation of Stand by Me, by Ben. E. King. Here some captions:

I have to say that these last months in Spain have been quite stressing but I wouldn't change a bit of it. I started working for the Casa del Blues de Sevilla, as a vocal coach. I picked up an old project (Solo Jones) with my friends Félix Roquero and Diego Ruíz, a couple of friends that I've known forever. This project is a cover trio, or better said, was a cover trio, since our dear Marcos Gamero joined on drums.
I've also started doing vocals for the Kid Carlos Band, where I'll be enjoying the sweetness of Blues music. And so on...

This, for now, is what I'm doing plus a few other things that I have in  mind (mwahaha).
I'll try to post a little bit more, even though it'll be these kind of things that no one is interested in (apart of myself).

The Grass is greener on the other side.

So... It's been a while again since the last post. I'm not used to this post-everyday thing, mostly because I spend my time looking at other blogs. :) I have to learn and that's the best way to do it. Me thinks.
Anyhow, I've been up to many things. Some gigging, some paperwork in Germany (which is something quite big), some wandering around and visiting Dresden, shopping (not much), looking after some visits, and all sort of things a girl can do.
My life is about to change its path again in a couple of months too, so I'm kinda busy preparing for it, both mentally and physically.  Is funny how life can take you from one point to another, sometimes even not realizing how big these changes can be. I reckon that it may be because you eventually get used to this kind of thing. Changes, I mean. Maybe, you loose fear or maybe you just accept what life brings you trying to get the best you can out of it. Who knows.
The fact is that I'm happy with all that's about to happen, even though I know it brings some negative side to it too... (not everything is positivism and pink colour here).
I've learned that no matter what or where, I'm always gonna be sometimes happy and sometimes sad, so... bring it on!
I consider myself very critical, very demanding even so. But hey, you are the one who chooses the way your life might be, huh?
